Paper Accepted at EuCAP 2026!

Our paper entitled “Performance Analysis of Underwater Optical Wireless Communications Under the Joint Impact of Disorientation and Misalignment” has been accepted for presentation at the 20th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP).

The paper presents a unified system and channel modeling framework for underwater optical wireless communications (UOWC), incorporating the combined effects of path loss, scattering, turbulence, misalignment, and transmitter/receiver disorientation. These impairments are among the dominant factors limiting the performance and reliability of optical links in underwater environments.

Based on the proposed model, we derive analytical expressions for the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and introduce a novel closed-form expression for the outage probability, enabling accurate performance evaluation under realistic operating conditions. Additionally, an insightful outage probability formulation is obtained for the special case where the shape parameters of the sum of Gamma-distributed turbulence components are positive integers.

The accuracy of the analytical results is verified through Monte Carlo simulations, which also provide useful design insights and guidelines for the development and optimization of robust UOWC systems.
